Tart cherries are ready for a cultural moment, according to Pinterest's 2025 trend predictions, where “Cherry Coded” tops the list.
Pinterest Predicts, the platform’s annual report based on user engagement and search trends, declares in its first prediction: “... sweet and impactful. This year, Generation Z and millennials will infuse tart cherries into their makeup, menus, and mood boards. One thing is certain: tart cherries will steal your heart in 2025,” reads a press release.
For the American tart cherry industry, this statement is a sweet nod to the versatility, flavor, and growing appeal of the fruit among younger generations. From adventurous culinary creations to its vibrant ruby-red beauty, tart cherries are set to inspire a new audience in unexpected ways, the release states.
“It’s truly exciting,” said Melanie LaPerriere, vice president of the Cherry Marketing Institute and CEO of Cherry Central, after hearing the news. “If Gen Z will love us in 2025, then we will love them back forever.” Tart cherries have always been a superfruit with superb and scientifically proven potential, and it’s exciting to see them embraced by new generations and creative platforms like Pinterest.”
With their distinctive flavor and proven health benefits – including being a natural source of melatonin and antioxidants – tart cherries align well with trends in wellness, flavor innovation, and bold aesthetics, the release adds.
The Cherry Marketing Institute, a nonprofit organization funded by American tart cherry growers and processors, has stated its encouragement for grocers, chefs, and food producers to follow the “Cherry Coded” trend. While tart cherries are in the spotlight, the Institute has affirmed it will continue its mission to support the nation’s tart cherry growers and inspire consumers with fresh and flavorful ways to enjoy the fruit.
