Due to their differentiated quality, these cherries obtained the first Denomination of Origin of the province. Furthermore, the cherries produced in Los Antiguos are the last to be harvested in the southern hemisphere, in the period between December and mid-February.

Aníbal Caminiti confirmed that the strategy is aimed at fruit that arrives later in the markets. He also recalled that the strategies of the Argentinian industry have to coexist with the strong presence of Chilean cherries, not only in China but in all markets.

Chile is by far the largest cherry exporter globally, exporting 414,000 tonnes of cherries from November 2022 to February 2023. By region, Europe is the largest producer of cherries and accounts for 32% of global production.

The farm Güizzo Frutas Frescas S.A., based in Mendoza, started the commercial harvest of this fruit produced in Argentina yesterday, 19 October, and for the third year in a row it has succeeded in starting in week 42.
