Area planted to cherry trees in the EU continues to decline slowly as old orchards are not renewed. In 2024, the production declines in Poland and Italy will push the overall EU output forecast down. EU consumption of cherries in MY 2024/25 is expected to increase.

As far as the domestic market is concerned, according to data from SIMA GPP, there was a price increase in 2023 compared to the previous three-year period 2020-2022, especially in the last weeks of the campaign, where the price rose from around 3€/kg to around 4.70€/kg.

The study aimed to characterise for the first time the culturome at seven different stages of development in cv. Saco. The current investigation has successfully identified a total of twenty-three bacterial strains and twenty-five fungal strains.
