The arrival of several shipments by sea increases export numbers, while the popularity of Chilean cherries in India grows.
Chile has almost doubled its cherry exports to India in the 2024/25 season. With the recent arrival of several sea containers, the export volume increased from 367 tons in 2023/24 to 708 tons in 2024/25, according to the Chilean Cherry Committee of Frutas de Chile.
“This season demonstrates the extraordinary opportunity that these Chilean cherries of superior quality have in the Indian market,” said Claudia Soler, executive director of the Chilean Cherry Committee of Frutas de Chile. “Through targeted promotional activities and engaging campaigns, we aim to showcase their versatility, not only as a delicious snack but also as a valuable ingredient for festive recipes.”
Juan Angulo, ambassador of Chile to India, and Jorge Andres Loyola Castro, trade commissioner of ProChile, visited the wholesale market in Delhi, Azadpur, while Gustavo Gonzalez Bulo, consul general of Chile in Mumbai, and Misri Kamlesh Goradia, ProChile representative in Mumbai, visited the wholesale markets of Mumbai, welcoming the arrivals and showing their support to importers, wholesalers, and Indian retailers.
“The growing popularity of Chilean cherries in India highlights the strong trade relations between our two countries,” said Angulo. “It is also remarkable to see the high quality of Chilean cherries in India, even after traveling for over 40 days in sea containers.”
“Our cherries are known for their exceptional quality and freshness, and it is encouraging to see that Indian consumers embrace the vibrant flavors and health benefits of Chilean cherries, making them a key part of their festive and winter celebrations,” said Castro about the recent arrivals.
