The event will offer three engaging discussion forums and three master classes, which will be conducted by renowned consultants and academics Luis Valenzuela, José Ignacio Covarrubias, and Carlos Tapia.

15 industry specialists will meet on June 18 at the Sun Monticello event center for the second edition of the largest technical event in the cherry industry: CherryTech 2024. Accreditation for this important event, which will bring together various stakeholders in the cherry industry, will begin at 08:30 AM, followed by the first master class led by the renowned consultant, cherry production specialist, Carlos Tapia.

"On this occasion, we will analyze the main factors that have influenced the productive potential of cherry trees in recent seasons, updating important data related to climatic and physiological factors."

"Additionally, we will update the latest research on agronomic management and its impact on productive potential, with a close look at the recent season, in which as a team, Avium has developed an interesting analysis of what happened," said Carlos Tapia, technical director of Avium, about his master class 'Updating Key Factors in the Productive Potential of Cherry Trees'.

CherryTech 2024 will feature two more master classes, the first of which will be conducted by José Ignacio Covarrubias, Agronomist, M.Sc., Ph.D., and professor at the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences of the University of Chile, who will speak about: “Nutritional strategies to improve the quality and condition of the fruits.”

"We will talk about some ideal nutritional strategies to improve the quality and condition of the fruits; we will discuss calcium, a nutrient essential for building firmness, among other quality variables; we will see how calcium is absorbed, transported to the fruit, and thus understand, with data, the right time to apply calcium, in what doses we should apply it, etc.

"And we will also talk about potassium, another absolutely crucial element for various quality-related variables, such as the size of the fruits, the caliber, the accumulation of soluble solids, the color, etc." “From root to fruit: productive stability and quality in cherry production,” is the title of the third master class, which will be conducted by the consultant, fruit growing specialist, Luis Valenzuela.

“My presentation at CherryTech 2024 will focus on what is not seen; by this concept, I mean what happens with the roots, their development, and their importance in the production process, the importance of irrigation, dormancy and its impact on the various plant processes, the fruit buds, their cycles, etc.; all aimed at increasing the stabilization and size of the production, which are the main challenges in cherry production today,” said the consultant.

The forums will address interesting current issues in the sector.

Additionally, three forums will offer relaxed spaces for conversation among various sector players; the first of these will be: “Post-harvest procedures and management: what is the final consumer's opinion and the critical points to address,” and will be moderated by Héctor García, co-founder and director of Laboratorios Diagnofruit.

This session will have four speakers: Pamela Osorio, head of quality and sustainable development at Ranco Cherries; Francisca Barros, post-harvest specialist and co-founder of Trío Kimün; Nicolás Zamorano, independent consultant for Asian markets; Raúl Orellana, post-harvest specialist and head of research and development of new varieties.

“In addition to the post-harvest forum, we will have two other conversation spaces that will be moderated by the founder and technical director of Avium, Carlos Tapia: ‘Availability, management, and its efficient use in cherry cultivation’ and ‘Rootstocks for cherries: update and characteristics of rootstocks and experiences of the last decade’; both forums will feature high-level speakers who will enrich and contribute to the discussion and analysis,” said Marie Bach, general director of Yentzen Group.

The forum on “water” will feature speakers such as Tomás Vicente, regional director of Wiseconn and board member of the Association for Irrigation and Drainage, Agryd; Lucas Ferrada, consultant specializing in plant nutrition and soil management; and Francisco Contardo, journalist, executive director of ComunicAgro, director and host of programs such as “Gestionando el Agua” and “Chile Alimenta Sostenible” on agricultural and water topics.

The session dedicated to “rootstocks” will feature three exceptional consultants in cherry production: Walter Masman, Ricardo Miño, and Jordi Casas.

Less than a month away from the most important technical event in the cherry sector, which for the second consecutive year is expected to gather more than a thousand participants, there are very few tickets available. Tickets can be purchased on www.cherrytechconvention.com.
