A new technology promises to revolutionize cherry orchard management in Argentina. AgroFresh, a global leader in postharvest solutions, has received approval from Senasa (Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria) for the use of Harvista™ 1,3 SC in the country's cherry orchards.

This marks a strategic milestone in strengthening Argentina’s fruit production sector.

What is Harvista™ 1,3 SC and why is it innovative

Harvista™ 1,3 SC is an innovative preharvest solution based on 1-MCP, designed to act at the critical stage of fruit development. Its application helps to extend the pollination window, promoting better fruit set and, as a result, a significant increase in orchard productivity.

The key to its effectiveness lies in the targeted management of ethylene, a plant hormone that influences many physiological processes. In cherries, this translates into greater uniformity and quality of the harvest, with firmer fruits, more appealing appearance, and longer shelf life.

An opportunity for the growing cherry sector

According to Leandro Fernández, country manager of AgroFresh in Argentina, “the cherry market in the country is expanding rapidly, driven by increasing investments and a more selective international demand. The introduction of Harvista™ in this context represents a real opportunity for quality- and yield-oriented producers.”

But the benefits extend beyond the orchard. Packing centers also benefit from firmer and more uniform fruits, with fewer losses during the postharvest phase and more efficient logistical management.

AgroFresh focuses on innovation across the supply chain

“Our mission is to provide tools that add value at every stage of the fruit and vegetable supply chain,” adds Fernández. “With Harvista™, Argentine cherry orchards can count on a strong competitive advantage in terms of yield, agronomic management, and commercial quality.”

This approval strengthens AgroFresh’s strategy in Argentina, where the company aims to consolidate its presence in the high-value fruit segment with integrated solutions that support fresh produce from the tree to the consumer.
