In the upcoming cherry season, Alanar, a Turkish fresh produce exporter, will cultivate cherries in three regions, starting from Izmir at the end of May. Their orchards span approximately 700 hectares across Canakkale, Afyon, and Manisa, focusing primarily on the Regina variety despite the prevalent Z-900 in Turkey.

With ongoing maturation in their orchards, Alanar anticipates a boost in cherry production. Forecasts suggest exceeding 600 tons this year, with projections reaching up to 1,800 tons by 2029. Expectations also include larger fruit sizes compared to previous years.

Favorable weather conditions signal a promising cherry season, contrasting with the adverse climate impacts experienced in 2022. Gokyigit, Alanar's coordinator, expresses optimism shared by contracted growers nationwide.

While the Red Sea crisis minimally affects air-shipped products, sea-bound shipments may face challenges, particularly to the Asia-Pacific region and the Gulf. Nevertheless, Alanar remains a major Turkish fruit exporter, focusing on cherries, figs, and blueberries via air freight.

Despite potential logistic setbacks, Alanar aims to expand its market outreach, targeting over 40 countries, with Europe, especially Germany, remaining a primary destination. Plans also include diversification into the Middle East, Central Europe, and the UK, showcasing Alanar's commitment to global fruit distribution.
