The first season of collaboration between Consorzio Melinda and VIP - Association of Val Venosta Fruit and Vegetable Cooperatives has ended with a positive outcome.
The shared experience in managing mountain cherries has confirmed the potential of a model based on cooperation between two leading players in the Alpine fruit and vegetable sector.
The production season delivered encouraging results, showing how the integration of volumes, facilities and expertise can help make the supply chain more efficient and strengthen its market presence.
One of the key elements of the partnership was the coordination of processing and marketing activities.
The joint management of volumes made it possible to optimize costs and approach the market in a more coordinated way, particularly in July, when cherry availability was more limited.
The season review was presented in Taio during the final campaign meeting, attended by grower-members of the APOT system and senior representatives of VIP.
According to Ernesto Seppi, president of Melinda and APOT, the results of the first season provide tangible evidence of the effectiveness of cooperation.
The ability to pool production, facilities and expertise has in fact contributed to greater operational efficiency, with the aim of protecting and increasing growers’ margins.
Thomas Oberhofer, president of VIP, expressed a similar view, highlighting how the agreement has helped enhance the complementarity of the two organizations’ production.
According to Oberhofer, the experience confirms the ability of the cooperative system to develop shared responses to market needs and provides a solid foundation for continuing to expand the collaboration.
The work carried out during this first campaign now paves the way for further consolidation of the cherry supply chain.
Among the opportunities highlighted is the funding call dedicated to cherry supply chains, presented as part of the Supply Chain Contracts managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.
The initiative aims to strengthen the organization and competitiveness of the sector and could provide new development opportunities for the path already underway.
The issue is particularly relevant at a time marked by strong competitive pressure.
Bringing together production and organizational capabilities can become a crucial lever for supporting the competitiveness of agricultural businesses and protecting growers’ margins.
The positive signals from the market also strengthen the case for investing in new technologies capable of supporting and enhancing production.
The first joint campaign between Melinda and VIP therefore represents not only a positive outcome for the season just concluded, but also a starting point for a broader strategy.
Cooperation, supply chain organization and innovation could become the key pillars for the next stages in the development of mountain cherries, in a market where efficiency and the ability to work as an integrated system are becoming increasingly important.
