Public support continues for cherry producers affected by adverse weather conditions: more than €900,000 distributed in the second payment of the extraordinary aid.
The Junta de Extremadura continues to provide financial support to farmers impacted by bad weather, with a new extraordinary payment allocated to cherry-growing farms. The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Sustainable Development has in fact disbursed €904,540, representing the second installment of the 2024 emergency plan and reaching 186 producers across the region.
The contribution falls under Measure 23 of Decree Law 3/2025, approved on May 27, which provides exceptional support for agricultural holdings – particularly sheep and cherry farms – affected by extreme climatic events. The package is framed within the FEADER, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Payments in three tranches
According to the Junta in an official statement, payments were authorized after rigorous documentary checks to verify compliance with the minimum requirement of a 30% production loss, an essential condition imposed by the European Commission to access the funds.
Following an initial payment made at the end of June – which benefited as many as 1,598 producers for a total amount of €6,887,856 – the second transfer marks a further step forward in the distribution of aid.
The third and final payment, scheduled for next week, is expected to reach approximately 190 cherry growers, with an estimated value of one million euros.
A concrete response
This package of extraordinary measures represents a concrete response to the difficulties faced by cherry growers, one of the categories most exposed to climate instability. The aim is to support production continuity and safeguard a key agricultural sector for the economy of Extremadura.
