On 12 November 2025 at the CTIFL site in La Tapy (France), CTIFL researcher Aliénor Royer-Lanoote presented a report on new cherry varieties.

The presentation focused on the evaluation of cherry varieties during 2025. After an introduction on the climatic and sanitary assessment of the previous season (high pressure of Drosophila suzukii, return of the cherry fruit fly, presence of early cracking), the researcher presented a detailed analysis of the main agronomic and quality aspects of seventeen red varieties and three bicolour varieties.

The varieties were analysed according to several parameters, such as phenology, productivity, fruit size, firmness, and susceptibility/resistance to cracking, double fruits, and mild winters.

Evaluation and objectives

The aim of the meeting was to guide varietal choices for new cherry orchards based on direct and objective findings on their performance under current conditions.
