Australian cherry exports reached 505 tonnes as of November 24 and are expected to continue increasing, potentially reaching 5,000 tonnes when Victoria reaches full production. According to the monthly newsletter from Cherry Growers Australia, the island state of Tasmania is also set to begin exporting cherries in the coming weeks.

The report also highlights that this season’s Australian cherries for export are larger, firmer, and sweeter. This is attributed not only to favorable growing conditions but also to the continuous improvements made by local producers working to position Australian cherries in export markets.

All Australian cherries destined for Vietnam undergo irradiation treatment in Melbourne or Brisbane, achieving a superior quality compared to cherries that require fumigation for export to China and South Korea, the association stated.

Given the competition from Chilean cherries, Cherry Growers Australia emphasized that maintaining the superior quality of Australian cherries is essential to offer customers the tastiest product on the market. Last season, Australia exported 4,030 tonnes of cherries, with a target of 5,000 tonnes for the current season.
