The strong response to the shipment of cherries from Chile represents India's growing confidence in more premium fruit.

India's IG International has welcomed the arrival of the first high-quality cherries from Chile. The container, supplied by grower-exporter Subsole, reached Mumbai on January 22. According to a statement from IG International, sales have since increased, and Indian consumers have responded positively to the quality and taste of the premium cherries.

“The response from the Indian market has been phenomenal,” said Shubha Rawal, chief sourcing officer of IG International. “This milestone highlights the potential of Chilean cherries to become a staple in India's fresh produce landscape. At IG, we are committed to bringing top-quality products to Indian consumers, and Subsole has been an incredible partner in this journey.”

The strong opening reflects the growing trust of Indian buyers in a high-quality offering. Subsole has been at the forefront of this movement, introducing and expanding new categories of fruit in India.

“India is a growing market for high-quality fruit, and we are proud to partner with IG International to bring Chilean cherries to discerning Indian consumers,” said Gonzalo Gajardo, commercial director of Subsole. “The success of this initial shipment underscores the immense potential for further collaboration and growth in this category.”

IG International and Subsole have expressed their commitment to continuing this trend toward more premium categories and strengthening India's fresh produce industry with innovative and high-quality fruit.
