Puglia: 14 million to innovate the cherry tree sector

New resources for the Apulian cherry tree sector: the Region is allocating 14 million euros to promote varietal modernization and crop protection.

With Determination No. 6 of February 12, 2025, the Managing Authority has approved the public notice for the submission of Support Applications (DdS) intended for agricultural enterprises in the cherry tree sector.

The measure is part of the Rural Development Complement (CSR) Apulia 2023-2027 and includes two key actions:

  • SRD01.04: investments for the modernization of cultivated varieties.
  • SRD06.01: interventions to prevent climatic and phytosanitary damage.

Objective: competitiveness and resilience

The initiative aims to ensure greater competitiveness for Apulian farms by supporting strategic investments in the cherry tree sector.

The goal is to improve the resilience of cherry trees to climate change and plant diseases through targeted interventions on structures, technologies, and cultivated varieties.

The allocated budget is divided as follows:

  • 4 million euros for measure SRD01.04.
  • 10 million euros for measure SRD06.01.

Who can access the funds

The call is aimed at farmers (individuals or associations) who meet the established eligibility criteria.

Among the eligible expenses are:

  • Creation of new cherry tree plantations.
  • Implementation of protection systems against climatic and phytosanitary adversities.
  • Improvement of farm equipment.

The selection of applications will follow precise criteria, prioritizing:

  • Farms with annual production exceeding 15,000 euros.
  • Interventions with sustainable agronomic practices.
  • Projects enhancing climate resilience.
  • Investments in varietal innovation.
  • Enterprises located in areas with a strong cherry-growing vocation.
  • Farms that join networks and cooperative structures.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted digitally through the official portal of CSR Apulia 2023-2027.

Funded projects must be completed within 24 months of funding approval.
