The Protected Designation of Origin Cherry of Valle del Jerte has expressed its "most sincere gratitude for Correos' tribute" in issuing a stamp dedicated to the Cherry of Valle del Jerte, as part of the 'Gastronomía D.O.P Extremadura' series.

The stamp, in circulation since March 25th, was presented on Wednesday at an official event in Cabezuela del Valle, Cáceres, attended by the president of the P.D.O Cherry of Jerte, José Antonio Tierno; the Director of Philately and Institutional Relations of Correos, Nuria Lera; the mayor of Cabezuela del Valle, María Luisa Yuste; and the Director General of Cooperatives and Social Economy of the Regional Government, Diego Sánchez Duque.

The president of the P.D.O Cherry of Jerte, José Antonio Tierno, highlighted the "support and recognition from Correos to the work of farmers in these difficult times for the sector." "Over the years, we have faced challenges and overcome obstacles, with tough campaigns and others more generous, but always with the support of Correos, which has facilitated the logistics of distribution and has given us the opportunity to promote ourselves in their offices throughout the Spanish territory," Tierno stated.

"In the P.D.O Cherry of Jerte, we are deeply grateful for this stamp and we commit to continue working to bring cherries and 'picotas' from Valle del Jerte to all audiences," concluded President Tierno.

On the other hand, the Director of Philately and Institutional Relations of Correos, Nuria Lera Hervás, emphasized that "the Cherry of Jerte has been portrayed and will go down in the history of philately and the country through the issuance of this stamp." "I want to congratulate you for having a worldwide recognized product, and with this stamp, we intend for it to be even more recognized," Lera concluded.

This stamp is part of a series that Correos issues dedicated to the Protected Designations of Origin of various Spanish regions. This year, the protagonist is Extremadura. Stamps can be purchased at Correos offices or through Correos Market.

The Protected Designation of Origin Cherry of Valle del Jerte exclusively covers cherries from the production area located in the northern regions of the province of Cáceres and situated in the mountain agricultural zone of Trasierra-Gredos Sur. This area has very specific and homogeneous geographical, physical, historical, and cultural characteristics. Cultivation is found in small terraced properties, located on slopes facing north or south.
